Casa Azul Spirits Obtains Favorable Judgment In Trademark Dispute From Mexican Appeals Court

Ruling recognizes the brand's distinguishing elements and identity
LOS ANGELES, Nov. 4, 2026 — Casa Azul Spirits, creator of award-winning, USDA-certified organic tequila, today announced a favorable judgment from Mexico's Eleventh Collegiate Administrative Court of the First Circuit in its trademark dispute, supporting the company's continued business operations in Mexico. The trademark dispute was initiated by Casa Tradición, S.A. de C.V, the owner of the Clase Azul Brand.
In its judgment, the Court found that "azul," Spanish for "blue," is commonly used in the tequila category and cannot be exclusively claimed by any one brand. The Court also found that the Casa Azul trademark's distinguishing elements are sufficient to establish its distinct identity in the marketplace.
The Court granted constitutional protection to Casa Azul Spirits, LLC and directed the Specialized Intellectual Property Chamber (SEPI) to issue a new decision consistent with the Court's findings. The ruling establishes a clear framework for the next stage of the proceedings and strengthens Casa Azul's legal position in Mexico.
